East Families: It's Unity Day Spirit Week
Unity East Student Council is partnering with Unity West and UJHS Student Councils for Unity Day Spirit Week. Here are our themes this week:
Monday - Neon Day - Wear your bright hats, shirts, pants, socks, & accessories.
Tuesday - Team Day - Each classroom will wear a matching item (crazy socks, all wear the same color, matching masks, etc)
Wednesday - Unity Day - Wear and share Orange!
Thursday - Rocket Day - Wear your Rocket gear!

Wednesday, October 21 is Unity Day, a day dedicated to uniting for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Come together in one giant orange message of hope for our schools, our communities, our nation, and our world.
Be a part of this visually compelling expression of solidarity across Unit Seven by wearing orange on Wednesday, October 21 and showing kindness to all those around you.

Special thanks to the Philo Fire Department for their visit to the school this morning as part of Fire Safety Week. The PFD observed and certified the school fire drill and met with Kindergarten & 1st graders to share their truck and talk about fire safety. All our students were reminded of the importance of having a fire safety plan at school and at home.

Arrangements for this year include the following:
Photographers will be set up in the middle of each side of the gym.
Students will wait on the sides of the gym before and after their photo.
Students will be permitted to remove their mask momentarily to have their picture taken.

East Families: Coming home today are orange papers with student names to be used for picking up car-riders at dismissal.
We are working to streamline our dismissal process and are asking parents (or whomever is picking up) to please display these cards on the dash or window to help us know who you are picking up.
If you need a change made to your card, or need a replacement, please contact the school office.

Our new solar panel array is installed and ready to go! In a normal year, we would have shared more information about the project, so here are some interesting facts to share - the panels were installed and will be maintained at no cost to the district, are expected to provide a 15-20% reduction in energy costs, and will come with educational resources to learn about how they work. There will even be a live display inside tracking the energy being produced. All good things for East!

East Families: It's been a great week to be a Unity Rocket! Tomorrow we are celebrating the start of our school year with our first Rocket Friday. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Rockets gear or school colors - Go Rockets!

Good morning, Unity East families - a friendly reminder to initial your child's yellow COVID Symptom Parent Certify form today and every morning before sending them to the bus or dropping them off.

East Families: We are excited to welcome our students back today!
A few reminders for everyone:
1) Be sure to have your child come with the First Day of School Covid Symptom Parent Certify form signed.
2) If possible, please drop off your child between 8:00-8:15. Doors open at 7:40 for families that require early drop-off, but 8:00am is the best time for kids to limit their need to wait in the hallways.
3) If you need to call your child in sick, please call between 7:00-7:40am each day this year. This will allow Nurse Ellen to be available to help with temperature checks.

Dear East families, please see the following information with more information about our back-to-school plan.
Teachers and administrators are creating a detailed plan to describe the format and expectations of remote learning for students who do not attend in-person. The remote learning plan will be provided on July 31 so that families are fully-informed before making their enrollment decision.
Elementary students who participate at school for in-person instruction (8:15am-1:30pm) will fulfill their daily requirements of 5 clock hours of instruction and will not have any further remote learning after the end of their school day.
Elementary buildings will be providing a device to every student. K/1 students will be issued an iPad; students in grades 2-5 will be issued a Chromebook. These devices will stay at school while we are normally in session, but will be sent home if our school transitions to remote learning.
